Bingham's Bluejacket Genealogy
Waweyapiersenwa
The Whirlpool, better known as Blue Jacket by Indian and white
alike, born in the early 1740’s, probably in Pennsylvania. His
parents were unknown but he had a sister living on an island in
the Maumee River below the Maumee Rapids in northwest Ohio in
1801. Last principal War Chief of the Shawnee Tribe, he was a
mentor of Tecumseh and died in about 1808 on the banks of the
Detroit River in Michigan Territory (at what is now Wyandotte).
M Baby
A half French, half Indian daughter of Jacques Dupéron Baby, a
French Canadian trader and agent of the British Indian Service. Ms
Baby was born at or near Fort Detroit, after 1750. She survived
the Shawnee/Wyandot Trail of Tears and died in northeast Kansas
Territory about 1843.

(2) George Bluejacket.
The third son and fifth child of Blue Jacket and Ms Baby (Blue
Jacket produced a boy and girl with another wife), George was born
in about 1881 at one of the Blue Jacket’s Towns in the northwest
of Ohio country. Along with brother James, he was a collaborator
with Tecumseh in the latter’s failed attempts to rid the Great
Lakes region of Americans. George died at Piqua, Ohio about 1829.
M Spouse Unknown
This wife was very likely a Shawnee but no
details have surfaced.

(3) Henry Bluejacket
When Henry was born is unknown, therefore, he may or may not
have been the first of George’s brood. He likely was born at Blue
Jacket’s Town, north of the Huron River and west of the Detroit
River in southeastern Michigan Territory near Brownstown. Henry
went to Washington DC in 1854 where he signed the Shawnee Treaty
with his brothers George and Charles. His last child was born
after Henry died at Bluejacket’s Crossing of the Wakarusa River in
1855, now in Johnson County, Kansas City, Kansas.
M Eliza
Born about 1818, she married Henry on March 16, 1843 but their
apparent first child was born in 1838. Eliza had been married
before as she had a son, George Sarcoxie, born in 1836 but was
raised in the Bluejacket household and used the Bluejacket name.
Her Indian name was Cho-wa-pea and she died about 1865.

(4) Stephen S. Bluejacket
Stephen was born in 1838 in northeastern Kansas Territory. He
was in Co. D, 17th Regiment, Kansas Voluntary Infantry in 1864. In
1871 these Shawnees migrated to Indian Territory, establishing
farms near Bluejacket Station on the MKT railroad. Stephen later
operated Bluejacket Hotel in Vinita, I. T. On Card No. 3458 of the
Dawes Roll, he is listed as ½ blood Adopted Shawnee. Stephen died
on November 8, 1901. His Indian name was Wa-wa-latj-kah-ka.
M Emily Tiblow
Emily was born on June 17, 1841 in Kansas Territory and died on
June 30, 1896 in Vinita I. T. The marriage date with Stephen is
unknown. Her Indian name was Me-swa-pe-a-se and she was called
Spotted Fawn. Emily had first married John Silverheels and they
had a daughter Frances.

(5) Mamie F. Bluejacket
Was born in Vinita I. T. on January 7, 1883 and attended
Carlisle Industrial School, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Her Dawes Roll
No. is 24048 and Card No. 3458 and she was 3/8th blood Adopted
Shawnee. Mamie died November 27, 1965 in Modesto, California.
M Charles Wilson Bingham
Married Mamie June 4, 1901. He was born Feb 4, 1870 in
Springfield, Indiana. Charles died October 1, 1945 in Modesto.

(6) Tom Farrar Bingham
Tom was born July. 9, 1902 in Vinita I. T. and died November 3,
1967 in Provo, Utah. He had a first, childless, marriage to a
Bette. Dawes Roll No. is 24049 and Card. No. 3458, 3/16 blood
Adopted Shawnee.
M Portia Lucille Craven
Portia was born October 6, 1907 and died
February 28, 1962.
