I was born in the San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton California on 12/29/33. My parents lived in the Yale Apartments in Manteca at that time. Father Felix Carlyle Hinshaw was born and raised in Vinita Oklahoma and mother Evelyn Laura Dukes (adopted, real name Lewter) was born in Bromide Ok and raised in Parsons KS. They were married by my grandfather, Judge George Austin Hinshaw, in Vinita on February 8, 1933. These "Okies" then left for CA and came back to Vinita in the spring of 1934. Felix left mother and me there and returned to CA. We stayed with William Lewis Dukes and his wife Eva Warenfelt in an apartment next to the Cobb Hotel. Bill Dukes had just retired from the International Harvester Company after selling implements for them beginning in 1900 in the four state area of Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. In September of 1936, we moved to Parsons, KS and Evelyn, now divorced, shortly left and went to CA on her own. Bill Dukes became my legal guardian and raised me thru Junior College in Parsons in 1953. I spent a year in CA working and visiting my many relatives there and was drafted into the Army in August of 1954. After mustering out in 1956, I entered Kansas State and earned a BS and MS in geology in 1959 and 1960.

I have been working as an exploration geologist since graduating from K-State and although semi-retired, still maintain offices in Norman and Oklahoma City to occupy my spare time.

I married Patricia L. Stephens of Erie KS in 1955 and we have three children, Gaylord Carlyle II, b 03/02/58, Grady Lewis, b 01/14/59 and Deborah Ann, b 01/25/63.
